10 Podcasts Every SEO Should Listen to
I’m having less and less time to consume content.
One reason could be the growing amount of blog posts and other content types being published everyday. It’s just hard to keep up with it all sometimes. Work and personal responsibilities consume a lot of my time too.
But when you’re craving knowledge and ideas as I do, it’s a serious problem.
I know I have been late jumping on the podcasts craze a while ago. But since then I’ve fell in love with the medium. And if you’re the same, you’ll find this post very useful. Because, you see, I recently set off to find new shows to listen to. And here are some I’ve found.
Part 1: SEO Podcasts
Edge of the Web
EOTW is a weekly show hosted by Erin Sparks, Tom Brodbeck and Douglas Karr.
In their own words their goal is:
“To help small, medium and large business owners understand the realm of Internet Marketing, and how it affects their business’ bottom line.”
The show covers various topics revolving around SEO and SEM, Social Media, Email Marketing or Lead Generation. The strongest focus however is on the SEO.
Here are topics of the last couple of episodes:
- Interactive Content – The Future of Content Marketing
- Google’s Local Snack Pack Shake Up
- SEO Spam and Good SEOs
The show is still active (the last episode was aired on the 9.01.2015) so if you’re looking for some SEO inspiration, head off to iTunes and subscribe.
SEO Podcast – Unknown Secrets of Internet Marketing
The authors of this show, Chris Burres and Charles Lewis claim that SEO Podcast is internationally known and most popular SEO podcast on iTunes. And it may as well be true. Although I’ll have to admit that I haven’t heard of it before.
Never mind, I’m really happy that I discovered it now.
The show is packed with episodes focusing on SEO best practices and techniques. And I’m sure you could gain a new insight from it too.
Here are the titles of last couple of episodes (the current one aired on the 08.31.2015):
- Improve Your Click-Through Rate
- Search Engine Marketing
- Local SEO for Multi Location
- Integrating Content Marking
A weekly show by Chris Boggs, Frank Watson and Jim Boykin discussing various SEO related topics along side various guests. And it’s absolutely fantastic. Here are some recent topic the guys have covered:
- Google search index count problem,
- Non-Mobile friendly sites disappearing from search results,
- How Google handles the new TLD’s for SEO,
- Can you automate SEO?
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Inbound PRO Podcast
This is a bit unusual show (at least to me) as it’s published daily. The host, Hector Cuevas talks about blogging, SEO and inbound marketing in general. True, the main focus is on using these strategies to build an online business. But even with that you can get some nice nuggets of information from the show.
- Top 10 Product Launch Tips,
- Why you should take a massive action today,
- Why your eBook won’t sell,
- How to avoid blogging failure.
Part 2: Content Marketing Podcasts
The Content Champion
I love this show. This is an interview based podcast with each episode featuring a different guest discussing various content marketing related topics. Recent shows feature Nick Eubanks, Danny Floyd or Rand Fishkin. And in the past, Loz James, the show’s host featured such renowned guests as David Meerman Scott, Kristi Hines, Rachel Foster (I learnt a ton from this episode), Jeff Bullas, Joe Pulizzi and many others.
Highly recommended if you’re interested in finding out more about content marketing.
Content Marketing Podcast
As its name suggests this podcast deals with everything content marketing. Run by Rachel Parker, CMP is now in its second year of weekly episodes and, it’s fun to listen to. Episodes are generally short, just over 20 minutes and focus on one specific topic. In fact, Rachel often devotes the entire month to one subject, turning each episode of that month a part of a series.
The podcast is geared more towards B2B marketers who want to learn more about content marketing. Nonetheless, as an SEO you should find some useful nuggets of advice too.
- Jeffrey Hayzlett on “Think Big, Act Bigger”
- How to Segment Your B2B Audience,
- Guest Blogging with Mike Fishbein.
The Content Warfare Podcast
Another interview based podcast featuring weekly conversations with prolific content creators. Recent guests on the show include Mike Brooks, Dan Norris and Brian Clark.
- Why Maxim has to Lie About Tucker Max to Get Attention,
- Lead Generation: Why Traffic Always Comes Second,
- How to Evaluate the Latest Hot New Marketing Trend.
Part 3. General Digital Marketing Podcasts
The Mad Marketing Podcast
A show by Marcus Sheridan on which he shares his experience in marketing. What’s different about this show is that there are hardly any interviews. Instead Marcus focuses on answering questions from listeners and sharing his personal stories and experiences.
- Using Content Marketing to Improve Workplace Culture,
- The Genius of Denny’s Blog, SEO Expertise, and More,
- Why My Daughter will be Traveling the World with Me the Next 3 Months.
Marketing Over Coffee
This is a quite unusual show as it mixes topics on traditional marketing with discussion about the online stuff. What’s more, its hosts, John J. Wall and Christopher S. Penn, record the show in a local coffee shop every week.
Some recent episodes:
- Hawaii and Traction Revisited,
- B2B Marketing Insider Michael Brenner,
- Cli-Fi, Nude Baristas and Stolen Books.
This Old Marketing Podcast
If you’re interested in recent developments in the marketing industry, this is a podcast for you. Hosted by Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose, each episode features discussion about the latest news from the marketing industry, rants and an occasional example of great content marketing strategy too.
- Social Media Isn’t Dead, We’re Just Using It Wrong,
- 2016 Will be The Year of Content Marketing M&A,
- End of Days for Digital Display Spells Opportunity for Brands.
